Can I breastfeed my husband?
The answer to this is yes, of course you can. But remember, if you are lactating and breastfeeding your infant, this must always take precedence over all other calls on your milk. If you are not currently lactating but would like to for whatever reason, this article may help.
Breast feeding is a natural instinct, part of your human psyche. Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) tells us that all experiences are stored as sub modals (that is each of the five senses related to a particular experience are recorded in the brain. Put another way, these same five senses represent the actual experience to your brain. It is no wonder then that if you were breast fed as a baby those feelings of love, warmth, security, comfort and sustenance were recorded, just like any other event.
For example, an infant's breast feeding experience may record one or more of the following attributes for each of the senses;
- Touch - being held in the mother's arms close to her body engenders warmth,
- Security. Suckling engenders warmth, satisfaction and fulfillment
- Taste - the taste of the mother's milk
- Smell - of the nursing mother and the milk at the breast
- Hearing - the suckling noises whilst feeding
- Seeing - the breast from which to feed etc.
These are stored whether we like it or not. The fact that they may be good or bad feelings is irrelevant as far as the brain is concerned.
If we again encounter a similar situation, that of a lactating female for example, in whatever circumstances, the stored sub modals (one or more of the five senses) previously associated with that event are automatically retrieved and you experience the effect of these stored feelings once again. Of course, each person's experience is unique and the information stored may differ significantly.
Depending on the depth of their feelings, some people may wish to recapture this event and re-enact this pleasurable experience.
If this is where your interest lies, you can begin by inducing lactation either by mechanical means such as a breast pump for example, or manual stimulation by yourself or partner. Hot compresses on the breasts may also assist, in addition to oral and manual stimulation, in relaxing the breasts to help achieve the milk letdown response.
Common inexpensive electric pumps (Gerber and Evenflo) are inadvisable for inducing because they do not give strong enough stimulation. Generally they are ill-built and clumsy to operate. Hospital grade electric pumps (Medela and Ameda-Egnell) perform better but are very expensive.
Your diet can also assist your milk production.
Herbs associated with lactation stimulation include: Alfalfa, Anise/Aniseed, Astragalus root (Huang-qi), Blessed thistle, Borage leaves, Brewer's yeast, Burdock, Chasteberry/Vitex, Comfrey, Dill, Essential fatty acids, Fennel, Fenugreek, Linsseed/Flaxseed oil, Goat's rue, Hops/Beer, Ignatia, Lactuca virosa, Marshmallow, Milk thistle, Nettle, Red clover, Raspberry, Vervain.
Here are the thoughts of one such couple who decided that they wanted to experience exactly what it was like.
"My husband and I are just beginning an adult nursing relationship. I have began inducing lactation for 1 week. This was something that we both agreed upon and already it has brought us closer than ever. This is not for erotic sex but is about giving some of myself to him. It is a way of letting him consume my love. Inducing is not easy. It requires a lot of dedication from both partners. You are forced to spend at least 3 hours a day together. It is time with my husband that I cherish."
